    Dealing with doubts about God

    image

suile-glasa asked: How do you deal with having doubts about God?

    image

Unka Glen answered: Well, awhile back I had me some doubts. And I tried talking to my Christian friends about my doubts, but they were no help, because they were too busy repressing their own doubts to hear mine. Besides they were worried I’d talk us both into disbelief.

So I tried talking to my atheist friends, but I realized they were worried too, about losing their faith in nothing. Who knows, if they doubted all their non-belief, they’d end up, ya know, being a believer. So they weren’t any help.

In the end, there was nobody to talk to except God, and that conversation went a lot like this:

Me: I have, like, doubts about all this stuff.

    Him: I get that.

    Me: You’re not mad?

Him: Nope. I like to do things on the down-low, so that way people come to me by choice. It’s better for the relationship that way. But it sometimes leads to moments of confusion.

Me: Yeah, I guess I kinda suck at the faith thing.

Him: Well, I can just give you the faith, that’s how it’s supposed to work anyway.

Me: Right on. I can dig that.

Him: I knew that you could.

Me: It’s just that sometimes things really look bad.

Him: There’s much more to life than what you can see.

    Me: Yeah. That makes sense.

Him: But you can always come to me for answers, that’s how that’s supposed to work too.

Me: That sounds like a lot of me coming to you, and like, depending on you.

    Him: Now we’re getting somewhere!

Me: Okaaay. You don’t mind me being kind of a hot mess about all this?

Him: I love talking to you about all this stuff, and there’s so much more for us to talk about as well. Don’t worry about your doubts, fears, or stumbles… just focus on keeping us connected. Everything you need will flow from that connection.

      I am nothing
      but a universe
      of ugly,
      broken,
      and lonely
      fragments
      of stars and
      constellations
      but, still,
      you have
      learned
      to love
      all of me.

        What I don't understand.

What I don’t understand is how people can go from relationship to relationship, within weeks at a time, and feel nothing.

What I don’t understand is how people can treat others like complete crap and not feel remorse for anything that they do.

What I don’t understand is the way that everyone thinks one sex has it easier. NEITHER sex has it any easier, or any more difficult. WE ARE HUMAN. Struggles don’t depend on what sex you are.

What I don’t understand is how people can be so broken, and not want to try and find a solution to it.

What I don’t understand is how I can sit here day in and day out and not be moved by what God has done for me..

What I don’t understand is why day after day I neglect the price that was paid at calvary like it was a measly sacrifice.

What I don’t understand is how I can look at the face, of the son of God, and say “Eh..I’ll ask for forgiveness later..”

What I don’t understand is why He forgave and continues to forgive me.

What I don’t understand is His love and compassion for a race that is so vile and disgusting that the Father couldn’t even look upon his own Son, when He took our sins upon his back.

Lord. Oh Lord I will NEVER understand. But thank You for being merciful and thank You for redeeming us and pulling us back from the darkness.

God where would we be without the cross..

          Let me make something clear:

I am a former Muslim. I have rejected the teachings of Islam, I have rejected the Qur’an as the inspired and eternal word of God, and I have rejected Muhammad as a Prophet. Islam, as far as I am concerned, is a false religion.

I am an Orthodox Christian. I see the good in all religions and acknowledge that any light, grace, and beauty found outside of the Church of Christ comes from the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I have experienced the light of Islam. I am currently a Christian because in high school I decided to take my Islamic faith more seriously; my prayer and seeking after Allah led me straight into the arms of Christ. As a Muslim I worshiped the same God I do now, though I worshiped him quite imperfectly and did not have a proper understanding of His nature.

If you are a Christian that is out to demonize Islam I strongly urge you to stop. The only way to approach Muslims is to understand the beauty and truth found in Islam and to then, in love, demonstrate how this truth and beauty is made complete in Christ. Some of the most pious, God fearing, and Christ like people I know are Muslims and we as Christians have much to learn from these people about living a holy and pious life.

As Christians we believe that He, who is the truth about both God and man, gives foretastes of His incarnation in all more fragmentary truths. We believe as well that Christ is present in any seeker after truth. Simone Weil has said that though a person may run as fast as he can away from Christ, if it is toward what he considers true, he runs in fact straight into the arms of Christ.

times i miss him the most.

nights before eid, nights like this where the sky is vibrant, full of stars, full of light..

            vaay ke delam tang shode.

i can still feel his hand brushing my hair away from my face. i can still feel his hard chest against my cheek, and his soft scruffy white beard against my temple as he kissed me.

i can still hear the sound of his words, though a mere memory. a mere whisper. as if he needed to clear his voice a few times.

thank you, for letting me know you, thank you for all that you have done for me, thank you for making me who i am today.

Why do you have a sudden urge to bring the Quran and Islam down? Why do you feel the need to bring down the beliefs of others? Are you not confident in your own? Seems like you've been doing some extensive research and even started a full-blown project. This is not meant to be an attack towards you, I'm not expecting an answer. I just want you to think more about the reasons behind your actions.

              Hello,

I don’t have a sudden urge to bring the Qur’an, Islam, or the beliefs of others down, I have just rediscovered my interest in Islam. I am very confident in Christianity, to be honest, which is why I do not worry when people tell me they are planning to do extensive research on my faith, it actually excites me! What I find odd, and what you should find troubling, is your lack of confidence in your own faith. If Islam is actually true, then you should not be so worried about me studying the compilation of the Qur’an or Islamic history/theology, it should excite you! ;)

                Thought:

Cyberbullying is only deemed as such when one does not merit libelous/slanderous remarks aimed to cause emotional and psychological harm towards someone online.

When the entire world wide web seems to throw all the motherfucking stones at you, you’re not being bullied for fun, dear, you’re experiencing the modern way of being crucified for something you did that’s in an exponential level of being an asshole.

So instead of crying foul, take a minute (or longer) to ponder what might be the reason for such a collective outrage.

It’s a free world out there, more so, right here. And in all logical explanations plausible, your actions beget equal actions – if you’re cruel, then the rest is crueler.

Wake up and smell the horse shit, honey.

When you say you are Pro-Palestine what do you mean? Are you Pro Palestine in the sense that you think the land is theirs or do you just disagree with the way the Israelis have approached it? Also do you think your Islamic roots have made your opinion biased in any way? Do you believe in replacement theology?
                    Anonymous

                    Hello!

When I say I am pro-Palestine I mean that I believe the land belongs to the Palestinians and I am against the way Netanyahu has dealt with the Palestinians. At this point I don’t think it would be wise or right to have the Israelis leave since the land has now become their home as well. I am ideally for a two-state solution and peace among both groups. Yes, my upbringing has obviously played a role in the way I perceive things and since I grew up an Arab Muslim I obviously feel closer ties to the Palestinians, but that is not what I base my decisions on. My upbringing makes me more passionate but it isn’t the deciding factor.

Also, no I do not believe in replacement theology. I do not believe the Church replaces Israel, I believe the Church IS Israel—there is continuity. I have addressed this issue before, click here to know more.

                    Blessings,
                    Malak
